10-Mile Island Run
August 4, 2018
Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run
On Saturday, August 4, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol (SICBP) will host their 48th Annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run along Sea Isle’s Beach and Promenade. With over 1,500 athletes participating each year, this event is one of the largest athletic competitions in the region.
The race will begin at 5:45 p.m., rain or shine. Due to safety concerns, an electrical storm will necessitate cancelling the run. Weather cancellations will be announced by 4:45 p.m. on the Beach Patrol’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
The 10-Mile Island Run takes place on a traffic-free, flat race course that begins and ends in front of the SICBP Headquarters, located on the 44th Street Beach. The course runs along the Sea Isle City Promenade for approximately 2.5-miles, and the remaining distance takes place on the sand. Low tide occurs at 8:14 p.m. on August 4, which means participants will not be running on soft sand, but on hard packed sand similar to a dirt trail.
Water stations will be positioned throughout the race course, and refreshments will be served to runners at the finish line. Digital clocks will provide competitors with their time at each mile-marker. Compuscore Computer Services will provide race results based on gun time. Complete overall order of finish, gun time and chip time will be available on their website, www.compuscore.com.
Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the top male and female runners in numerous categories. High quality event tee-shirts will be distributed to the first 1,200 registrants.
